The formula

Weight in kg = (D x D / 162) x length in metres, where D is the diameter in mm.

Example: 40 bars of 16 mm, each 12 metres long. 16 x 16 / 162 = 1.58 kg per metre. 1.58 x 12 x 40 = 758 kg.

Why actual weight differs slightly

IS 1786 allows a batch to vary from the standard weight by 7 percent for bars up to 10 mm, 5 percent for bars over 10 mm and up to 16 mm, and 3 percent above 16 mm. TMT is sold by weight, so you pay for the weight delivered.
